The Marked Men, Bad Sports, The Novice and Pink Smoke at Rubber Gloves Rehearsal Studios
Now that Mind Spiders mastermind Mark Ryan's one-time partner in crime Jeff Burke has moved back to Texas from Japan, it's looking like we can expect to see some more Marked Men shows taking place — and thank goodness for that. The seminal Denton punk outfit founded by that twosome is often credited as starting the whole lo-fi punk trend that remains so prevalent in the region today. If nothing else, the Marked Men are certainly the band that bridged the gap between Denton and Dirtnap Records, the Portland-based label that's release so many of these bands' albums. Like the Marked Men, Bad Sports (the adored trio that features some of Ryan's Mind Spiders bandmates) and The Novice (Jeff Burke's other band) have seen albums of theirs released on that label and share this stacked bill, which also features the upstart Pink Smoke outfit, the latest punk offering from former Lash Outs frontman Joey Holbrook.
Le Cure and The Venables at the Granada Theater
Josh Venable may be out as the program director for KDGE-FM 102.1 The Edge, but, as promised, he's still around town and he's still going ahead with pushing his new Smiths tribute band, The Venables, onto the masses. Tonight, he and his band entice with an '80s-adoring bill also featuring area Cure tribute outfit, Le Cure. Should be a fun offering, too — especially considering that the Granada's confirmed the appearance of a Delorean on its front patio for this event.

Enjoy the historical aspect of burlesque, but wish that its nods to times past were more literal? Boy, are you in luck tonight, as Ruby Revue promises to be even more historically-oriented than usual this time around. Tassels keep it classy!
