Scenes From Friday's This Will Destroy You, True Widow and The Angelus Show at the Granada.

So. The world didn't end. Shocking, right?

And yet the marketing team at the Granada Theater still capitalized on all that Mayan fear-mongering (faux or not) on Friday night. That much, actually, isn't shocking at all — not to anyone that's paid attention to that entity's rise into one of the most powerful social media marketing vehicles in North Texas (and perhaps beyond) in recent years.

In turn, by promoting this show as the venue's supposed last (albeit with their tongues firmly planted in their cheeks), the venue drew quite the crowd to its space for this apocalypse-centric affair, which featured performances from locals The Angelus and True Widow, plus the part San Marcos-based, part Dallas-based This Will Destroy You.

To be sure, walking into the theater as This Will Destroy You started their headlining performance on this night produced eye-opening results: The venue's entire floor space was packed (the balcony was closed off for this one), with some 600 or so local music fans crammed into seemingly every nook and cranny of the theater's floorspace.

As a result, it's fair to say, This Will Destroy You played to its biggest North Texas crowd to date at this show (surprisingly, given the scope of this band), perhaps only their 2010 performance at the Homegrown Festival aside.

But, beyond just large, this crowd was also an attentive one, all too content to allow the band's booming post-rock to wash over them as the band tested the limits of the room's P.A. system and, perhaps most notably, its subwoofers. It was a loud display, yes, but a gorgeous one, too.

Had the world ended on Friday night as some feared, this would've been a good way to go out. But even though it didn't, this show still resonated. Loudly and victoriously, at that.
