That New A.Dd+ Album Is Right Around The Corner. Finally.

Get ready to welcome a new face to town.

Exactly two weeks ago today, the Dallas Observer announced that they were looking for a new music editor. That position has now been filled. Kiernan Maletsky, who has spent the past 21 months serving as the music editor for the Observer's sister paper, Riverfront Times, wrote a column for that paper this afternoon outlining his plans to move to Dallas to fill the open position.

Writes Maletsky: “I think Dallas will be great, and I can't wait to immerse myself there with all the enthusiasm my liver can handle.”

Well, that didn't take long at all, did it?

Conversely, we've been waiting for A.Dd+ to release their DiveHiFlyLo mixtape for what seems like forever — or at least since last April. For the rap duo's part, they've been doing a hell of a job teasing that sucker, most recently leaking that tape's first single, “Suitcases,” last month.

But as of this morning, the end finally appears in sight: The Granada Theater added a ticket presale to their site today for a January 26 performance that the duo has confirmed will act as their album release show. While the rest of that lineup has yet to be announced, we do know general admission tickets will be $9 while tickets to a special seated area will go for $29.

A pair of other bands are also anticipating some big things for the beginning of 2013 as well. In the past week, some photos from Denton/Austin punk outfit Bad Sports' current recording sessions have begun to surface on various social media outlets. Aside from band members Orville Neeley, Gregory Rutherford, and Daniel Fried, the photos also confirm that Fried's bandmate and Mind Spiders mastermind Mark Ryan has been tapped to produce the album. As of now, that project is slated for release in the spring. Ryan, it should be noted, has also been busy recording Denton upstarts Pink Smoke as well.

Similarly, Spookeasy frontwoman Stephanie Burns promised her band's fans via Facebook this week that big things were in store for Spookeasy, too. Writes Burns: “If you don't hear from us for a bit, rest assured we aren't takin it easy. Brace yourselves for some exciting news and new noises soon, my darling little spookies.”

We can confirm this much for sure: At least some of these “new noises” will provided by former Sealion bassist John Warwick, who has recently joined Spookeasy's ranks.

Shakeups aren't just for bands, though. While we were busy partying at Dada this weekend, legendary residential DIY space The Annex House was hosting its first show in the past 10 months. We always had a sneaking suspicion that February's “final show ever” somehow wouldn't be the end of the story for the storied house venue. If last Saturday's performances by The Late Shadows, The Beaten Sea, Fox and the Bird are any indication, it could signal that the house's new owners are at least open to the idea of the occasional house show.

And, finally, just in time for the holidays, the makers of Rock Band have finally made it possible for fans of their popular videogame series to let out their inner Vaden Todd Lewis: As of today Toadies tracks “Possum Kingdom,” “Tyler” and “Away” are available for download in the Rock Band Music Store.
