Tonight at Dada, We All Scream For Screaming Females!
Though we've been teased with cooler climes a few times here and there already this fall, this weekend brought us the first real jacket-worthy days of 2012. But that doesn't mean it's time to go off and start preparing for a long winter hibernation. Far from it, in fact. There's plenty of stuff going on tonight — especially if you like garage rock or watching mice being slowly digested.
Screaming Females at Dada
Screaming Females are one of those bands that just feel important. From the heaps of love their hard-edged punk-infused sound garners, you get the impression we'll praise them 20 years from now as laying the groundwork for the Next Big Movement in rock history. Time will surely tell, but that hasn't stopped outlets like Pitchfork from acting like they might be mentioned in a book like Our Band Could Be Your Life someday.
Mind Spiders, Lenguas Largas and Occult Detective Club at Rubber Gloves
This bill screams “Denton garage rock is not dead!” like none has for a good little bit. Sandwiched in the middle of this bill are Tuscon garage-poppers Lenguas Largas. But the real draw tonight is the always crowd-pleasing Mind Spiders. Be sure to get their early for Occult Detective Show, though. Their shows may be few and far between, but those boys know how to pen — and perform — a tune.
Snakesss of Texasss at Texas Discovery Gardens
If you're checking out the State Fair anyway today, head on over to the Texas Discovery Gardens, where they're currently hosting a rare Texas snake shack and daily live feedings. Yes, this is the same place that regularly hosts twice-daily butterfly releases.
Half-priced tacos at Lee Harvey's
All State Faired out? Craving something that's not fried and doesn't require you to exchange your currency for colorful coupons in order to get some? The tacos at Lee Harvey's are just a buck tonight. That's the same as two coupons!
