Get Your Festival On With Grimes (And Many, Many More).
It's the Weekend of the Festival! Not only is Spune Productions putting on their first Index Fest, which is a two-day affair with tons of awesome bands, but Parade of Flesh is also hosting the free “Big Fucking Anniversary” affair at Bryan Street Tavern! Dallas will temporarily become a haven for all bands this weekend! On the other hand, if you're deaf (and not like the deaf kid in Mr. Holland's Opus, who can “feel the music”), there's always Oktoberfest!
Friday
Flobots and Astronautalis at Granada
Denver's Flobots and Minneapolis/Dallas/Seattle/Florida/The Moon/My Basement/Willy Wonka's Factory-based rapper Astronautalis will be tearin' it up at the Granada tonight. The Flobots are so excited, they're even bringing their violin! (Just kidding. They always bring the violin.)
Index Fest: Day One at Trees
The first day alone of this festival is pretty fantastic, you guys! I mean, Portugal. The Man, Grimes, and Heartless Bastards? That's a recipe for a good time.
Saturday
Dinosaur Jr. at Prophet Bar
Remember the '90s? Remember Pokemon cards? Remember Aaahh! Real Monsters? Remember Dinosaur Jr.? The '90s indie rock legends went away for a while, but now they're back!
Index Fest: Day Two at Trees
The lineup for the second day of Index Fest is just as solid as the first. Cold War Kids, Washed Out, GZA, Surfer Blood and more? Try not to continuously pinch yourself!
Bryan Street Tavern's Big Fucking Anniversary Show
Sad you can't afford tickets to Index Fest? No worries! Bryan Street Tavern's four-year anniversary bash is free. Not only that, but it's going all day and the lineup is awesome. Those Darlins, Turbo Fruits, Royal Bangs, and about 10 other bands will be performing.
Somebody's Darling CD Release at Club Dada
Somebody's Darling will be celebrating the release of their second album, the hilariously titled Jank City Shakedown at this show. Also, they just got home from a month-long tour, so be sure to say “Welcome home!” if you get up the courage to speak to them.
Buke and Gase at City Tavern
Brooklyn's Buke and Gase named themselves after their instruments. The “buke” is a hybrid baritone ukulele and the “gase” is a weird guitar/bass combination instrument. Weird, right?
Oktoberfest in Lake Highlands
Hey, it's October! Time to spell the name of the month with a “k,” dress in weird costumes and drink beer! That's exactly what everyone will be doing in Lake Highlands today.
LaTex at Dallas Convention Center
This Grambling State University and Prairie View A&M football game after-party is being billed as the world's largest indoor after-party. They're expecting 10,000 people, so feel free to bring a friend. Or 9,999 friends.
Sunday
Big K.R.I.T. at House of Blues
Big K.R.I.T. (or King Remembered in Time) will be in Dallas tonight to claim his rightful title as the King of All Rap. The House of Blues will be temporarily referred to as “the throne room” for this show. (Not really.)
Bike Swap Meet at Rahr and Son's
Bring a few bicycle items to swap for this twice-annual Bike Swap meet! Maybe you can get some sweet handlebars! Also, there will be beer there, so remember not to drink and bike!
David Byrne and St. Vincent at McFarlin Auditorium
Out of the blue, Dallas' Own St. Vincent and the Talking Heads' David Byrne became, like, total besties a few years back and recorded an album in Oak Cliff with Dallas indie rock producer extraordinaire John Congleton called Love This Giant. Tonight, they return to town to perform songs from the record. Expect many references to Oak Cliff!
