Zombie Expert Max Brooks To Speak at UNT Next Month.

One assumes Max Brooks didn't really have the do, well, anything with his life. The son of comedic genius Max Brooks and actress Anne Bancroft, Max could've stayed in the background, out of the limelight, silver spoon firmly planted in his mouth.

Instead, he did something rather awesome: He became among the world's foremost experts on zombies.

It took him a while to get there, though. As a young lad, Brooks followed in the footsteps of his parents and landed a few acting and voice work gigs here and there. As he got older, he scored a gig as a writer for Saturday Night Live from 2001 to 2003.

It was when he left SNL that everything changed. Immediately, he released The Zombie Survival Guide, a somewhat tongue-in-cheek affair meant to help the zombie-obsessed prepare for the inevitable zombification of the world.

By 2006, however, he was completely serious about the matter. That year, he released the ridiculously great World War Z, which tells the oral history of the worldwide zombie uprising (in this world, it actually already happened) from the perspectives of a journalist who lived through it and the subjects he's interviewed about it. The film version of that book, which will both star and be produced by one Brad Pitt (maybe you've heard of him), is set to be released sometime in 2013.

North Texans eager for more zombie talk hardly have to wait that long to be satisfied, though. Brooks will be coming to the University of North Texas to talk zombies on Tuesday, October 9, at the University Union. Students can buy their tickets for $10; non-students can purchase open-to-the-public tickets for $20.
