New Startup We Are Dallas Attempts To Build a Community of Party People.
What a night Saturday night was.
It was crazy packed, that's for sure.
There was Riot Fest, Art Uprising, The Go Go's, Fiona Apple, Kirby Brown's going away party and probably some other baller events we're forgetting thanks to a certain, familiar hazy stupor we typically find ourselves in on Mondays.
But, in the midst of all this Saturday night action, one party thrown by an upstart Dallas collective did very much manage to stand out in our eyes.
Called We Are Dallas, the group's a pretty new one. But they've been making a name for themselves of late by throwing monthly parties at a photography studio in East Dallas called 500x.
Fronted by Tommy Jay (one of the dudes behind Centre at Mockingbird Station), the group is intent on bringing together and building a scene of creative street kids who want to put Dallas on top of the map through hard work and just-as-hard partying.
It can be a tough thing, trying to build a community, but We Are Dallas definitely has the right supporters. Rappers Paris Pershun (of A.Dd+) and -topic were hanging around at the party all night; so, too, was local visual design guru Joonbug.
It was a good time, to be sure. And maybe a sign of some collaboration to come.
