Black Hippy Members Jay Rock and Ab-Soul Joined Dallas' Finest at the Prophet Bar on Friday.

Another well-attended Black Hippy-related show in Dallas?

Oh, stop acting surprised. Really, after ridiculously well-received appearances in town from the more prominent members of the Los Angeles rap collective earlier this year — Kendrick Lamar at Trees back in January and Schoolboy Q at Prophet Bar in July — it was about effing time the remaining members of the group made it to town.

Hell, it almost didn't matter that Ab-Soul and Jay Rock are themselves fine up-and-coming rap talents. Dallas has love for the promising young collective, which has yet to even release its first collaborative release, and the city proved as much again on Friday night as crowds again showed up en masse to the Prophet Bar to show some support for the locally Coffee Music Hub-promoted affair.

I guess that's just what happens when Tech N9ne calls your group “the new NWA” and Dr. Dre signs you to an Aftermath Records deal.

And, even on a bill that featured a slew of Dallas' own most prominent rap acts (The Mohicans, Brain Gang Blue, A.Dd+), the less prominent twosome from Black Hippy very much impressed. Each went straight for the gut, offering up a high-energy, intensely delivered, 40-minute-or-so performance.

Between each song, the crowd threw up their hands and hollered their approval.

The only thing the crowd could have better received, really, would be a Dallas performance from the entire collective.

With each member doing so well individually at this point, though, it's sadly doubtful that will happen any time soon.
