A New Dallas Restaurant Concept Ditches Good Fast Food For Good Food, Done Fast.

Dallas is pretty much a mecca for fast food chains. We've got fried chicken places, doughnut shops, taco joints out the wazoo. And that's before we even start talking about burgers.

So, yeah, it's kind of hard to come up with something new and inventive in this town that people might actually enjoy. But, from the looks of the way things went yesterday, Erin and Mike McKool just might have cracked that nut.

Their brain child, Start, opened on Wednesday morning at 4814 Greenville Ave., right next to Rusty Taco, and, by dinnertime, the parking lot for their place was completely packed.

The day wasn't without problems, of course. On just their second day of officially being open, the kitchen had already run out of their entire week's stock of beef. Meanwhile, Erin was in the kitchen herself, furiously whipping up more baked goods to keep up with demand.

“We didn't know what to expect,” McKool admitted as she sweetly passed out some of her freshly made banana bread to her new customers i the dining room, “but we will definitely be more prepared tomorrow.”

The good news, of course, is that she and her husband have prepared an interesting menu to offer — one that features a large selection of wholesome foods, including breakfast sandwiches, baked goods, burgers, salads. Then there's their variety of coffees, beers and wines, all of which are organic, fair-trade and local.

The goal? To give patrons handmade food in a hurry. It's not necessarily diet food — but it's better than most fastfood fare. Take a look at their entire menu here. Or just stop on by and say hello for yourself.

You'll feel welcome if you do. The brand-spanking-new, uber-hip spot is more than inviting.
