Bottoms Up at Billiard Bar!
If you understand why it's impossible to like both Marvin Gaye and Art Garfunkel, tonight's meeting of the Vinyl Preservation Society at the Barley House might be right up your alley. If not, the storytellers event at the Kessler or DJ Hammertimez's set at Billiard Bar tonight might be decent options. Just be sure to grab some grub at Sigel's before you head out.
The Food Truck Experience at Sigel's
Mitch Hedberg once pointed out that he liked vending machines because “snacks are better when they fall.” He later added that he believed the sudden drop to help “maximize [a snacks'] flavor potential.” Much in the same way, we've noticed that cooked foods often taste better when prepared in the back of a truck.
Storytellers at the Kessler with Hot Tuna
Although Starship and their single “We Built This City” might be the first Jefferson Airplane spinoff that comes to mind, Hot Tuna was perhaps the most independently successful. Hopefully, founding members Jack Casady and Jorma Kaukonen will dish on playing with Grace Slick and touring with the Grateful Dead as part of their “storytellers” appearance tonight.
Vinyl Preservation Society meeting at the Barley House
You know that old-school record clerk who seems to know everything about every album in his shop? “Oh, you're buying a White Stripes CD?” he might ask. “Why don't you go grab a Flat Duo Jets or Son Volt record instead?” If he's your idea of an awesome dude, you just might be a music nerd. So check out the monthly meeting of the Vinyl Preservation Society tonight at the Barley House. This month's themes are “Keep It Primitive” and “Guest Appearances” if you want to bring some vinyl of your own.
Hammer's High Life Wednesdays at Billiard Bar
If you frequent any of the establishments that host DJ Josh Hammertimez on a weekly basis, you've no doubt missed his deft mix of tunes the past couple weeks as he's been off exploring Europe. Fret no more. His weekly Billiard Bar gig kicks back off tonight. Bonus: Billiard Bar only charges $1.25 for drafts on Wednesdays.
