Find Out What You Do With A B.A. In English At Avenue Q.
North Texas has no shortage of local bands or of quality local bills on any given night. Three decent options can be found tonight at the nationally-praised Oak Cliff spot The Foundry, Deep Ellum restaurant AllGood Cafe and Lower Greenville cornerstone the Granada Theater.
On the other hand, it's always nice on nights such as this when there are a variety of other goings on to choose from. And there are plenty of those tonight.
For instance, House of Blues is hosting a burlesque variety show, Theatre Three is putting on a production of the infamous musical Avenue Q. and a pre-Olympic batch of national volleyball matches are going on over at the Dallas Convention Center.
Does Dallas know how to party or what?
Dove Hunter and The Blurries at The Foundry
Earlier this month, Travel and Leisure magazine named Oak Cliff bar The Foundry one of the country's best outdoor watering holes. Credit goes to the awesome next-door food options from Chicken Scratch and free concerts from bands like Dove Hunter and The Blurries on the vastly unique stage made from old warehouse crates.
Ruby Revue's Red Hot Burlesque at House of Blues
When Independence Day falls on a Wednesday, does that make the weekend before or the weekend after the official Fourth of July weekend? The reason we ask is that the Ruby Revue is having their Red Hot Burlesque show tonight, and we were wondering if it was appropriate to make any dirty, patriotic puns to convey this message to you. At ease, soldier. They're just pasties.
Jonathan Tyler & The Northern Lights at Granada Theater
Granada fixtures JT & The Northern Lights headline a bill that includes three of the area's most popular bluesy, southern rock bands. Fort Worth bands the Orbans and CT favorite Quaker City Night Hawks open.
KNON's Lone Star Dead Radio show benefit at AllGood Cafe
For all the #kxtfail hashtags and backlash that KKXT 91.7-FM persistently receives, we must remember from time to time that there is another public radio station in town. And, yes, as the “voice of the people,” KNON 89.3-FM just might be one of the most truly public stations in the country. Local Grateful Dead tribute act Forgotten Space will be performing at a benefit for the station's “Lone Star Dead Radio” show tonight at AllGood Cafe. We hear the band will be performing the 1970 album American Beauty in its entirety.
Avenue Q at Theatre Three
Despite what your parents told you when you were growing up, let's face it, you are no more special than anybody else. Discover the cold, hard truths along with a puppet named Princeton, the main character in the raunchy musical Avenue Q, who faces the same post-college realization that most of us eventually come to: “It Sucks To Be Me.”
World League volleyball tournament at Dallas Convention Center
In 28 days, the Olympics return to London for the first time since 1948. Starting tonight, though, the FIVB World League will be hosting volleyball matches at the Dallas Convention Center. See France vs. Italy at 5p.m. and USA vs. Korea at 7p.m..
