Beat The Heat at the Meltdown Music Festival.
The week is finally over! Does a hot day of standing outside and listening to Pretty Lights and Passion Pit sound fun to you? What about stuffing your face full of hot dogs until you (probably) puke? Today, live your life on the edge! If living above edge doesn't appeal to you at all, you can enjoy more lighthearted fare with the musical version of Legally Blonde at KC Studio Theater. Other then that, you can see Paula Poundstone at the Lakewood Theater or The Cave Singers at the Prophet Bar.
Hot Dog Eating Contest at The Stand
Takeru Kobayashi won a world record for eating 64 hot dogs in 10 minutes. Surely, you can do that, too. The goal is to eat as many hot dogs as possible in order to win $1,000. After you win the cash, maybe you can spend it on getting your stomach pumped? Or, perhaps, invest it in a nutrition book? Hell, just use it to buy more hot dogs.
Paula Poundstone at Lakewood Theater
She was named one of Comedy Central's 100 greatest standup comedians in 2004, so Paula Poundstone must be doing something right. Known for her outrageous suit-and-tie combo (it's outrageous because she's a woman), you might remember Poundstone from the '90s.
Unknown Hinson at The Kessler
If you've seen the hilarious Adult Swim cartoon Squidbillies, then you're familiar with Unknown Hinson (he does the voice of Early Cuyler). His live act is a mix of comedy and country music.
Meltdown Festival at QuikTrip Park
Is it too hot for an outdoor festival? Tough to say, but I'm pretty sure Pretty Lights and Passion Pit fans would look me dead in the eye and declare “No!” as they put on their third layer of sunscreen.
Cave Singers at Prophet Bar
Seattle's The Cave Singers (comprised of former members of post-punk act Pretty Girls Make Graves) have emerged from their cave enough times to record three albums since 2007.
Legally Blonde at KD Studio Theater
The movie that helped catapult Reese Witherspoon to celebrity status has come to life in musical form! Full of blonde hair, the color pink and at least one very small dog, Legally Blonde hasn't changed all that much. But did you really want it to?
