Kick The World Into Shape With The Parlotones.
Exhausted from attending both M83 shows this past weekend? Or maybe just from some long hours of F.O.E.-ing? We suspect you'll probably be using tonight to recover a bit. But for those still raring to go, there's plenty to nerd out to tonight. A PBS legend, a do-gooder indie band, a geeky pub quiz and a class about communicating with dogs are all among tonight's best bets.
Red Green Show at Lakewood Theater
The next meeting of the Possum Lodge is at Lakewood Theater: Steve Smith appeared on public television for over 15 years as flannel-clad Canadian handyman/television show host Red Green and he'll be dishing out humorous advice on duct tape and relationships tonight as part of his current one-man show. Because as Green always said, “If women don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy.”
Grand Prairie AirHogs vs. El Paso Diablos at QuickTrip Park
While the Texas Rangers are on the road, the reigning AAIPB champion AirHogs play the first home game of their 2012 season tonight in Grand Prairie. The most expensive tickets are just $12 for a front row seat — or, y'know less than half the price of a Boomstick hotdog at Rangers Ballpark.
The Parlotones at Prophet Bar
The Parlotones are sort of like the Captain Planet of indie-folk bands — or. at the very least. a less-pretentious Bono. In the last year alone, they've climbed Mount Kilimanjaro to raise awareness on ending violence against women in their native South Africa, joined a campaign that's trying to stop rhino poaching, worked with another entity that aims to reforest parts of South Africa with indigenous trees and a campaigned for yet another group to encourages South Africans to become blood donors.
Geeks Who Drink pub quiz at Texas Theatre
According to quiz master George Quartz, Texas Theatre's Monday night pub quizzes are just as much about having fun and getting shit-faced as they are about attaining nerd glory. This helps explain last week's costume contest, which was decided by a “shirts-off simulated-fellatio-infused dance-off” that involved a group of ninja turtles.
What Is My Dog Trying To Say at Flower Mound Public Library
Ever wonder what your dog would say to you if it could talk? If you've yet to decipher which of your pooch's barks mean “Ugh, Kibble again?,” “Would it kill ya to put a towel on when you get out of the shower?” or “This Ke$ha record makes me want to crawl under the porch,” then tonight's presentation at the Flower Mound Public Library would probably be pretty helpful.
