Scenes From The Lone Star Rod and Kustom Round Up in Austin.
Listen: We. Like. Cars. Motorcycles and scooters, too, apparently. Can't help it. For me, at least — an Okie raised on dirt tracks and hot rods — it's in my genes.
So of course I dragged my restored '66 VW Beetle down to Austin this weekend for the massive annual classic car show that is the Lone Star Rod and Kustom Round Up. No, I couldn't register my car into the event — it's for pre-1963 rides only, thank you very much — but I still had to go. The two-day event is among the biggest in the region, as classic car and hot rod freaks put their work on display for all to see and vendors show up to sell rare parts. Also, there's a cruise ride and races on mini-bikes.
What's not to love about that?
