Fall For Chairlift At Dada.
This past weekend was one of the busiest we can remember in quite some time. That being said, it would make sense that tonight would seem slow by comparison. For those that partook in last weekend's chaos there are some nice places in town to rest and recharge — such as Barcadia's patio, or maybe in the air-conditioned theaters over at the Angelika Film Center. And, of course, for those still raring to go there are still things like rockstar karaoke over at House of Blues, that promising Chairlift show over at Dada and the ongoing Half-priced food at Barcadia
A patio with giant Jenga, an old Street Figher II arcade machine and half-priced food and all-night happy hour? Why aren't we here every Monday?
Victory Beer Dinner at Meddlesome Moth
Just because it's not their second anniversary week anymore doesn't mean they stopped putting together attractive excuses to head over to this gastropub. Tonight, the Moth has teamed with Victory Brewing Company for a beer dinner that includes four courses and six of Victory's brews.
Chairlift at Dada
The Brooklyn-by-way-of-Boulder electro-pop duo originally formed to create music for haunted houses (or so the story goes) before eventually outgrowing their initial purpose and crafting '80s-inspired tracks. In 2008, their track “Bruises” appeared in an iPod Nano commercial. The attention they received from the Apple spot allowed them to release their follow-up LP on Columbia Records. The much-buzzed-about Nite Jewel opens.
Dallas International Film Festival The Angelika Film Center
The Dallas International Film Festival will be going on all week over at the Angelika and a few other spots around town. Though we don't really have the space to talk about each of the 100-plus films showing at the festival, our own Jeremy Hughes does a pretty good job highlighting some of our most anticipated screenings. Tonight, for instance, you can check out the concert film/tour documentary Andrew Bird: Fever Year.
Rockstar Karaoke at House of Blues
Let's face it, Dallas is a pretty karaoke rich city. There's Good Luck Karaoke on Thursdays at Double Wide where singers are encouraged to show up in costumes fitting that week's theme, there are a few Korean-style Norebangs like Mac Karaoke and Family Karaoke for those that prefer the private room thing, and Sundays at The Goat are, well, the kind of thing you just have to see it for yourself to really understand. Tonight at House of Blues there is yet another take, one in which would be rockstars get to perform with a full live backing band.
