With the rumors flying of gas prices jumping to $5 a gallon and ruining everyone's summer in the process, we recently decided to weigh our options on some alternative transportation at Transit Bicycle Company.

Transit is an independent, full-service bike shop located in West Village — one founded on the idea that cycling is more than a recreational activity, that it's both efficient and an eco-friendly.

Though the shop is known for track and single-speed bikes, Transit's well-stocked with plenty of equipment and service for everything from beach cruisers to full-carbon race bikes.
