Enjoy The Sips and Sounds Of Savor Dallas And Carrie Rodriguez At The Kessler.
As the week winds down, so too does SMU's fashion week, which has been taking place all week. Unsurprisingly, they're end things with a big fashion show. Meanwhile, This week's other big week-long event, the Dallas Comedy Festival, continues on with shows and workshops through the weekend.
These events will compete with another multiple-day event, Savor Dallas, which kicks off their three days of festivities with a booze-and-food-filled stroll through the Arts District and then a concert in Oak Cliff that will also include a food tasting featuring some of the OC's finest restaurants.
Lastly, new full-length documentary on punk icon Jay Reatard gets screened tonight at Texas Theatre, and R&B star The-Dream also performs at South Side Music Hall.
Savor Dallas in the Arts District
It's the most delicious time of the year: Savor Dallas, always one of the year's most anticipated foodie events, is going down tonight. This evening's planned events start out at the AT&T Performing Arts Center and continue with a wine-, beer- and spirits-filled stroll through the entire Arts District, making stops at Dallas Museum of Arts atrium, the Meyerson Symphony Center, the Nasher Sculpture Center and the Winspear Opera House. Food items will also be available at some of the stops.
Carrie Rodriguez at Kessler Theater
Technically, tonight's performance by sensational fiddle player and Austin product Carrie Rodriguez is also tied into the Savor Dallas events. A single ticket will not only get you into the complimentary food tasting featuring bites from Oak Cliff favorites like Gloria'a, Hattie's, Inforzato's Italian, and Tillman's Roadhouse from 8 to 9:30 p.m., it'll also get you into the performance by Rodriguez immediately following.
Fashion Week at SMU
The final event of SMU's fashion week 2012 is the big runway show outside of The Meadows Art School building. Starting at 5 p.m., the show will feature fashions from Stanley Korshak and The Shak.
Better Than Something: Jay Reatard at Texas Theatre
Celebrated punk icon Jay Reatard dropped out of school at the age of 15 and began releasing records at a furious pace up until his untimely passing in 2010 at the age of 29. Filmed just months before his death, the documentary Better Than Something: Jay Reatard will be released tonight with a showing at Texas Theatre. The film contains interviews with Reatard, as well as his family and friends, who speak rather candidly about the musician.
Dallas Comedy Festival at Dallas Comedy House
Just like yesterday, the comedy fest will feature performances from selected improv and sketch comedy troupes from around the country, like the noted L.A. duo FrankenMatt. Shows are at 7, 9, and 10:30 p.m., and the full schedule can be found here.
The-Dream at South Side Music Hall
Singer, songwriter, and producer The Dream is responsible for co-writing two of the biggest hits in the last decade: Rhianna's “Umbrella” and Beyonce's “Single Ladies (Put a Ring On It).” He's also made quite the name for himself as a performer in his own right, releasing a trio of very well-received solo albums in the last few years. A fourth, called Love IV (Diary of A Madman) is slated for release this spring.
