A Beach-Themed Bar Is Coming To Deep Ellum — With Volleyball Courts and Everything.
As is, the lot simply features a foundation and three fairly pristine beach volleyball courts.
But, come May, the plot of land at 317 Second Avenue in Deep Ellum proposes to be much more than that. Or so is the plan.
A TABC application notice posted to a construction trailer parked within the chain-link fence that surrounds the perimeter of the land promises a new hangout coming to the neighborhood — one called the Sandbar Cantina and Grill, or “Beach Ellum,” as the in-the-works bar's website says locals are already calling the spot, somehow.
Alas, despite its being in its quite early stages, the Sandbar looks fairly promising, proposing not only a plethora of volleyball-related activities (three more courts are currently being built in the back of the lot), but food and music, too.
Attempts to reach the space's proprietors have thus far proven unsuccessful, but professional beach volleyball player and Olympic gold medalist Phil Dalhausser seems to already approve of the spot: His Champion Beach Volleyball organization recently posted a Facebook status update claiming the bar at the intersection of Second Avenue and Canton Street already had “the most beautiful sand this side of Florida.”
So, hey, that's something!
According to the website, the venue is aiming for a May 2012 opening. We'll let you know more information about the space as we hear it.
