Seven Years In The Making? It Better Be Awesome.

Index Skateboard Supply, the Mockingbird Station skate shop locally owned and operated by lifelong skaters, was founded in 2004 with one thing in mind — skateboarding, and skateboarding only. Sure, Index carries the latest products, but their belief is that a true skate shop should really be more than just a store. Index was founded on the idea that it could be a community center for skateboarders — a place to congregate, make friends and learn the culture of skating. Having long established itself as Dallas' top skate shop, Index recently released their very first skate documentary, too. Called Allergic to Awesome, the film is seven years in the making.

“Ever since Index opened up back in '04, we had plans to film a video,” says the movie's director, Shane Darnell. “Why? Well because that's what street skaters do. Very few of us would deal with traffic, security and risk of injury without the reward of some video documentation. It really wasn't until '07 or '08 when our second generation of team riders came along and I felt like we had the crew that could make the video I had always dreamed of. Five years and 366 DV tapes later, we have Allergic to Awesome. “

The DVD documentary is now available at the store's Mockingbird Station location, as well as at its Hurst satellite store.

“Even after all the countless hours and hard work, I never once felt like this was something we had to go out of our way to make,” Darnell says. “The project came together naturally because this is something we all loved doing anyways.”
