Love Shack Takes Fast Food Up A Notch.

Service: 4 out of 4 Burgers
Food: 3 out of 4 Burgers

So a guy/girl just asked you to come to Denton with them to go see this great new folk-punk reggae witch-house band playing in a closet. There is going to be a vegan buffet featuring only organically and locally grown products. It's true, they even press their own tofu.

Don't worry: Denton isn't a big town.

Just say you are going outside to have a cigarette with this guy who grows his own tobacco and wants to show you how he hand-makes all the animal cruelty-free filters. Once you escape, walk east of the square a block and you'll find Love Shack. You should go there because they make awesome burgers that happen to be made with the best possible ingredients.

Tim Love, executive chef and owner of this spot, is a man who knows good food. There isn't anything fancy there, but whatever you get it is always made from quality stuff. Each of the Love Shack restaurants features a sort of open kitchen aesthetic. You'll see the coolers where they keep the eggs or stacks of soda flats. Lots of exposed ducts and beams abound. You get it.

But how does the food taste? Well, pretty damn good for the most part. The Dirty Love Burger is a cheeseburger with their in-house “Love Sauce” and a quail egg placed on top for added richness. Is it maybe overkill? Nah. It is delicious. The patty is a solid medium to coarse grind, and it gets a great char on the griddle.

Meanwhile, the fries at Love Shack are super thin. Super thin fries can work, but the batch I got was half soggy and limp and halfway overcooked and before long started existing as a single chip entity and not a fry. I'll blame that on the busy weekend up in Denton, even though super thin fries like that are hard to pull off in the first place.

Regardless, Love Shack is known for their burgers, and for a good reason. You should go get some next time you end up in Denton.
