Four years ago, Vogue editor Ana Wintour launched something of a revolution in the fashion industry by creating the first-ever Fashion's Night Out, wherein this often hoity-toity world is somewhat turned on its head. For one night only each year, the highest-end stores in the country extend their hours and offer freebies, all in an attempt to give their offerings a more inclusive feel and to make the layperson more comfortable in this oft-exclusive world. But, even so, the event, which this year falls on Thursday, September 6, can be a difficult one to navigate if you aren't 100 percent sure of what you should be doing or where you should be going.
Enter this post, which is aimed to help you do just that. Whether you're a bargain hunter, a freeloader, a music fan or a member of the see-and-be-seen set, we've got a map to help you plan your night completely. Before checking out the maps, though, make sure you know exactly which kind of person you are. Fashion's Night Out is a big night with lots of options, so it's important to know ahead of time which ones you want to see.
The Freeloader: You're the party person that's into the idea of FNO for the free drinks and the occasional swag bags. Here's the thing: Most of the parties at this event do have free drinks and bites to eat. But, listen, if you're in this thing to get drunk, there definitely is a proper path to take. Follow our tips and you'll be nice and toasty by the end of the evening. Just please be sure to have yourself a designated driver to drive your sloshed ass around.
The Bargain Hunter: Not into the party aspect of FNO? Just looking for the best deals? We've got you. There are plenty of deals to be had during FNO. But, for the best of the best deals around, take our advice and hit the spots laid out in this map.
The Music Purveyor: Love fashion but also want to boogie a bit throughout the evening? You're in luck! Some of the hottest DJs around town will be setting up their turntables at the most fashionable FNO parties. Be sure to follow this route if you want your ears to thank you later.
The See and Be Seen: This is the route for the ones that only care about the company they are surrounded by. Don't be ashamed. We know all you fashionistas deeply care about this. In this map, we'll give you the most fashionable, the most beautiful, and, of course, the coolest kids to be around on FNO. Make sure to bring your cameras. Or play it cool. Your call.
