Rep The South With Big K.R.I.T.

By Cory on Saturday, February 25, 2012 at 10:20 AM

Saturday night's alright for live music -- and there's plenty of it to be had, most notably with Big K.R.I.T. bringing his "Country Shit" to Trees. That's a strong contender for show of the week right there. But if southern-fried hip-hop isn't your bag, The Legendary Shack Shakers will be getting rowdy just up the street. Or you could just skip the music altogether and do some drinking for a good cause.

Big K.R.I.T. at Trees
Earlier this week, K.R.I.T. told us why he just loves performing in Dallas, which is great news for fans of the just-about-to-blow-up southern rapper who would love to see the emcee to make Dallas a regular tour stop. And, oh yeah, it'll sound fucking phenomenal on Trees' killer sound system. Have we beat that horse into the ground yet?

Mimosa Brunch Special at The Mint
Asian food and mimosas make quite the pairing -- or so the folks at The Mint have told us. The Asian fusion cafe is serving up $2 pineapple or orange mimosas this Saturday afternoon.

The Legendary Shack Shakers at Prophet Bar
Maybe we're just a little biased because the last time we saw the Shack Shakers it was at a clusterfuck of an outdoor festival in Tennessee during what can only be described as a monsoon. Bands were disgruntled, gear was ruined, and a tiny makeshift tent was erected over a rickety back-up stage that many bands would have flat-out refused to stand on. And yet the Shakers managed to rip the roof off that thing.

Katie Herzig at Dada
Chances are, if you've ever watched television, you've probably heard a Katie Herzig song or two. The Colorado folk singer has had her songs appear in several episodes of Grey's Anatomy as well as Pretty Little Liars and others. Nashville's Sandra McCracken and Denton's Jessie Frye open.

DJCC's TASTE Wine tasting event at the Dallas Contemporary
The Dallas Junior Chamber of Commerce's signature philanthropic event is their annual wine tasting, which tonight will feature 15 wines from around the globe this year as well as appetizers. The event will benefit a pair of charities that work with the visually-impaired.

Gomez at South Side Music Hall
The late '90s Brit rockers may have gotten overshadowed by contemporaries like Oasis, Radiohead and The Verve, but let's not forget these are the dudes that gave us such wonderful phrases as "Love is Better Than a Warm Trombone".
