Get Smart With Perfume Genius.
By Chelsea on Wednesday October 17 2012 at 7:40 AM
On this unusually packed Wednesday, you get to choose what musical act or party particularly floats your boat. Perfume Genius at the Modern Art Museum is definitely highly recommended, but if you're less of a lovesick miscreant and more of a regular miscreant, there's always Morbid Angel at Trees. Or, if you want to take your Target-brand Led Zeppelin shirt out for a spin, you can go to the Magnolia for Led Zeppelin Appreciation Day!
Morbid Angel at Trees
As the United States' third-best-selling death metal band (which is definitely an accomplishment your mom would brag about to her friends), Morbid Angel has terrorized the country since 1984, when they were conceptualized at a seance with a rogue Ouija board.
Perfume Genius at the Modern Art Museum
Perfume Genius, aka Mike Hadreas, is one of the most talented and evocative songwriters of the past few years. His album Put Your Back N 2 It is an impressive work of expansive loneliness, of the space between two people that constantly seems to grow. And this video is amazing.
Led Zeppelin Celebration Day at the Magnolia
While I'm hard-pressed to think of a band that is less in need of appreciation than Led Zeppelin, apparently the rest of the world does not feel the same! The "appreciation" is actually more of a viewing of a 2007 reunion concert that, real talk, you probably wouldn't have been able to see at the time, so maybe console yourself with a viewing of it five years later and a few thousand miles away.
Assassination City Roller Derby Tryouts at Dad's Broadway Skateland
If you think you have what it takes, bring your pads, helmet, mouthguard and a $10 registration fee to Dad's Skateland, where (if you are a lady) you can compete for a spot on one of the Assassination City Roller Derby teams.
Goodfriend One-Year Anniversary Party
Like a newborn baby, Goodfriend is also turning a year old! (Well, I guess that makes it more like a year-old baby.) Come out for select beers and music from Slick 57.
