Float Like A Butterfly To Catch Brother Ali At Trees.
By Cory on Monday September 17 2012 at 7:40 AM
As we pretend to be something we're not today (read: a person who enjoys Mondays), we've decided to look for entertainment options that are similarly masquerading as something else. For instance, over in Denton, there's a house that's acting like it's a music venue. Conversely, here in Dallas, there's a theater that's calling itself a "house." And let's not forget that rapper who calls makes us call him our brother although we're pretty sure we're not related.
Brother Ali at Trees
Scoremore's latest Trees show couldn't have been more well-timed. The venue, which just celebrated its third anniversary, hosts Rhymesayers artists Brother Ali on the eve of his latest album release.
Fishboy, New Science Projects, James Rabbit and Iji at Macaroni Island
Denton's newest house venue gets christened tonight with a donation-based show featuring the touring bands Iji and James Rabbit.
Party Mouth at Ochre House
In this production, we hear about a pair of uptight girls move from Mesquite to Dallas proper, where they become addicted to smack and wild parties. Although we can relate -- we became addicted to corndogs and Kellogg's Honey Smacks cereal pretty hardcore when we first moved here -- we've been assured it's an entirely fictional tale.
Bad Ass Jazz at Amsterdam Bar
On a weekly basis, Amsterdam Bar disproves the theory that good jazz is only found in dimly-lit smoke-filled dives or joints with white table cloths. Case in point: Some of the consistently best jazz in the city happens amidst a sporadic whiff of cat urine.
