The Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth Unveils KAWS' Companion.

By Heather Abbott on Monday, September 10, 2012 at 4:56 PM

Back in December and January, the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth highlighted the work of Brooklyn-based artist Brian Donnelly -- or as he is creatively known, KAWS -- and rightfully so.

KAWS' body of work is impressive, to say the least.

His roots are in graffiti art, but today he balances a career between commercial and fine art, while still maintaining a streetwise aesthetic. His mediums are all over the map, too: His fine art is designed graphically or by way of pencil or paintbrush, but KAWS also fabricates impressive sculptures.

That latter style in particular is why the Modern is once again featuring his work.

Now adorning the museum's entryway is a piece called "KAWS' COMPANION." It's a 16-foot-tall sculpture just begging to be climbed upon.

I think you might get shot if you try to do that (so, uh, don't), but here's the cool thing about this new piece: Unlike most traveling art showcases, you can photograph this colossal installment.

Look for an even larger COMPANION during this holiday season's Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.

And before that, even, clear up your for Tuesday, October 2, plans: KAWS himself will be in the Fort that night, providing a lecture at the Modern.

Get your tickets for that affair here.
